Once I arrived I was allowed to ask the tree three questions about the universe. Actually once I arrived a camera told me I was trespassing and to leave. Looked like any other tree and there was a lot of trash around.

The Jurupa Oak is California’s oldest living tree- estimated to be between 13,000 and 18,000 years old! And there are efforts to protect it from developers wanting to build nearby. Since a reviewer didn’t see anything special about literally the third oldest living thing on earth when he wrote his 3 star review, I’d like to paint a better picture of the state’s ultimate survivor who likely experienced ground sloths, saber-toothed cats, and mastodons passing by it.

It took root an estimated 13,000 years ago (for context, wooly mammoth’s went extinct 10,000 years ago). “It has withstood the end of the ice age, countless fires, and a rocky habitat hotter and drier than oaks are usually known to handle.” - Stu Vanairsdale for the California Native Plant Society Flora magazine.

Please do research and respect and protect this sacred tree and area 🪶 and if you are going to visit, please bring a garbage bag and pick up any trash you see. The 3 star review mentioned there was garbage in the area but not if he did anything about it. Respect the ancestral land in which you are visiting. The Kizh Nation considers the Jurupa Oak a sacred ceremonial site, vital to their ancestral heritage.
