I was issued a parking ticket whilst my car was parked/paid at a meter, due to the city's deferred maintenance; my car was parked for no more than 30 minutes. However, I attempted to appeal the citation with photographs and rationale via the city's review process, but was swiftly met with a dismissal even when it was their deferred maintenance that lead to the citation to begin with. The meter maid who issues these tickets is extremely opportunistic and predatory, and the entire situation is made worse by the fact it seems to be warranted by the city's staff.

The cops that work here should be embarrassed that they serve their citizens via public extortion. I lived in NYC for 10 years with a car and never had one ticket. I’ve worked in EMS alongside cops and know how to operate vehicles with emergency lights. As soon as I moved here, it’s been endless tickets. I literally wake up to see cops running to ticket as many cars as they can on my street. Listen, I have no problem being ticketed for valid reasons but in my time here, I’ve been ticketed for absolutely no fault of my own. The first time I got a ticket, I had just moved here and the city was handing out expired parking passes and telling citizens to wait until they received notice of the new one. I never received notice and was handed two tickets for the expired pass even though I’d had it for several months no issue. I’ve been ticketed for my tire being on the white line of the parking spot due to other people not parking within their lines. The middle aged “volunteer” who you speak to regarding appeals could care less about you and stares blankly at you as he rejects your appeal (it’s the same guy every time like wth?). I now understand why California gets a bad rep… absolutely ridiculous

Received a parking ticket of $55 because the parking app switched to my old license plate. When protesting the ticket with the city, I was told it was valid and I had to pay. The spot was fully reserved and paid when I received the ticket, just my license plate was different. It's a shame that the city is willing to nickel and dime its community.

Was visiting CA (your welcome for my tourist dollars) & couldn't find parking anywhere near a restaurant that was a few blocks from the beach. I drove around all over, nothing. And the signed were confusing. So I parked in the only open spot, which said 1 hr parking. During covid, with a group of people, how could I order food, eat, and get back to the car in 1 hr. I appealed and was denied. For a $24 restaurant tab I ended up paying an additional $49 ticket. Up yours City of Hermosa Beach! I will NEVER spend my tourist dollars in your city ever again!

I would give negative stars if I could. Be careful with the parking, their meters don't work so they can extort money out of visitors. I would just avoid LA all together. The lady I spoke with at the parking "authority" was extremely rude and doesn't understand what a mitigating circumstance is. I can only assume she is simply taking her hatred for her job out on visitors. Shame too, until they decided to steal money from me it was a decent trip. Just one more reason to stay away from California.

Regarding City Hall specifically, it's probably the most rude and entitled group of people you'll come across. In renewing my parking pass this year, I heard phrases like this said to Residence of Hermosa Beach, "don't throw things at me" (when a customer slid his card to the employee), "stop interrupting me" (directed to me when I was asked if I had an updated license plate because they could not locate my vehicle, which I did not).

I then had to provide my vehicle registration to show them that my license plate change the years ago at which time the employee admitted it was their office that screwed up when they didn't update it last year.

These people act like they run life for the residents here when all they really have control of his how quickly they process giving me my new parking pass each year.......
