“I guarantee we won’t do anything about it” That’s what I was told by Big Earth after repeated phone calls to give them a chance to rectify the situation. We ordered five pallets of fresh cut Bahia along with two pallets of three day old Bahia, after being assured on our phone call that the Bahia looked good.(CC’s had told us their fields didn’t look good at that time and refused to sell substandard products)
I was literally told by someone at Big Earth that Bahia is” nasty… Disgusting… Ugly…”. Having lived in Florida for 25 years, we know what Bahia grass is and have layed it successfully in past. We were not expecting Bermuda quality grass, however, we were expecting appropriately cut sod. What we got was sod that was cut too shallow. Most pieces included very little dirt, and quite literally fell apart upon being picked up. What should have taken our crew 6hours to place, ended up taking 1 1/2 days. When I spoke with Big Earth, I was told” Bahia has no roots…” then literally, in his next sentence, he informed me” Bahia has roots that will reach down 20 feet to find water…” WHAT? When I asked them regarding their quality control standards I was told ”that’s above me”. Manager refused to speak with me.

Picked up a yard of riprap (web order) today, Saturday 6/17. Front office and yard was lined up busy with residential and pro customers, I expected to be camped out waiting. Nope - the staff had me taken care of quickly and professionally. BIG Thanks to Joey in the yard for recommending and taking the extra time to do a gentle hand transfer of the product (big/heavy) from the bucket loader into my truck. Appreciate this man’s hustle, grind and concern to clue me in on the risk in getting loaded up. Thanks brother! Pickup, transport home and installed (edging) in and hour and a half!

This sod purchase was by far the worst. If I could leave no stars I would. I had purchased sod here before and was pleased but I received a pallet of Bahia today and I noticed the dirt was sub-par to begin with but went ahead with it. Top portion of pallet, upside down pieces, dry, dead, and all falling apart, gave it benefit of doubt and continued on in hopes of improvement. No improvement, ya know when you have dead grass and the root systems are "dead" it will not hold the soil together. So I called and asked to exchange what was left, because it is that bad. What I received on the phone was, "well when we have so much rain it does that". Really this pallet has not seen water in a long time evidently, totally dry! Must have been stored somewhere. And I told him that. Then said "Bahia will come back". I know that, when the roots are still good! But these roots are not alive, totally dead. And I told them the root systems would hold the dirt if they were alive and what he told me.." they dont have a root system" FOR REAL? ya know what I will never give my business to them again. The best advice I have for you is to pull a few off of the top before you buy it. If it starts falling apart, like crumbling in your hands run, go somewhere else. Maybe dont even go there to begin with 🙂 They should NOT have sold that. I know I would not have because I care about the quality of my business. I guess they just care about their wallet. Shame on them, and shame on the idiotic explanations I received. I couldnt believe it. He was just squirming away... sickens me... no attempt to resolve the problem, just sorry about your luck. It was bad of them to let that go out the door to begin with.

In response to the reply they left... I do not appreciate threats to my values and what kind of person I am. Your quote " I can assure you, that if you are honest, you will change your one star rating to five stars in about 30 days" Ummm I dont think so. (this is what type of person im dealing with) That sod should have not even left the truck. I am fully aware of Bahia and how they grow it. But you can not hide the fact that the cuts were bad, no soil, and dead roots, sorry but dead roots do not come back, the neighboring live roots do. It will take a very long time for this to fill in. Should have gotten seed...
